When selecting the particular
printing process you want to use in printing a book, you must carefully
consider your precise printing needs.
Even in this age of computers and the Internet,
books are an important part of our lives, they are information,
entertaining, educating, and in some instances act as a decoration or
accent for our homes. Books make us laugh, cry, and some even inspire
us. This is possible why so many of us aspire to be published authors.
When publishers have books printed, they usually use standard paper as
well as sizes. In addition, to ensue the books are not only printed how
the publisher desires them to be, also affordable, the publisher has to
choose a printer who provides economical print pricing. This is also
important for anyone who has a publication he or she wishes to be
printed.
Offset printing is a process which as been used for years to print
books. Offset printing provides more flexible pricing than digital
printing, which general has a fixed cost per unit. This means with
offset printing, the larger your order, the lower the cost per unit.
This is perhaps the mine reason why offset printing is still more
popular than digital printing. Even though digital printing has
increased in popularity recently, among many in the printing industry
most publishers still benefit greatly from offset printing.
When we speak of offset printing, it is important to realize that there
are mainly three types of offset press, which include the web press,
sheet feed press, and belt press. The web press uses paper on large
rolls, which are continuously fed into the press at a high speed, where
it is cut, printed and folded, emerging in signatures which are bundles
of 32-page sections. The web press is the most cost effective print
process and used to print primarily newspapers, shoppers, and
advertising inserts.
The belt press is generally used for magazines as well as trade books.
The belt press uses the web press process as well as a binder, producing
complete paperbacks at the end of the process. Hard covers on the other
hand will only need jackets to complete their printing process. The
sheet feed press, however, is the slowest form of processing among the
different types of offset printing. The reason for this is because
process prints one sheet at a time. Despite its time consuming speed,
this produces the highest quality of print, best used for short print
runs that range between two and three thousand copies.
When selecting the particular printing process you want to use in
printing a book, you must carefully consider your precise printing
needs. Many times however, this discussion will depend on the book
printer that you choose. When you carefully select your printer and the
printing process they use, you reduce the amount of stress and worry
you’ll about producing a quality book.
