Printing today is much more sophisticated than ever. While there has
been little change in the process, the capabilities of modern day
printing equipment are vastly improved. The quality of products produced
by today’s printers is vastly superior to what was produced years ago.
You can have high expectations of your professional printer.
Photographs used to be very difficult to include into your printing
projects. At the beginning of the century plates and lithographs made
them easier to incorporate, replacing specially made plates that had
been used prior to this. These days you do not need to use plates.
Photographs are now printed by using a negative on one drum dipped in
ink to transfer the image onto the page.
The use of miniaturization has served to dramatically increase the
quality of this technique. Very small images can now be incorporated
into printed material, including highly detailed images and text. The
best part of modern day printing technology is that it has greatly
minimized flaws, giving the consumer high quality detail printing.
While offset printing is still the industry standard, it is slowly but
surely being replaced by digital technology. It won’t be long before
digital printing will cost the same as traditional printing. This is
likely to lead it to dominate the printing industry, replacing almost
all other technology. With its superior quality the emergence of digital
technology is a very positive thing for the industry. Digital printing
also offers the promise of quicker processing and improved efficiency.
